Everyday Habits That Are Ruining Your Skin

There are a huge number of habits that people indulge in every single day that are potentially harming the skin and preventing you from getting that perfect flawless complexion. It doesn’t matter how many expensive treatments you put on your face; if you’re committing any of these skin care sins, your skin is not going to look any better.

As a company that specialises in aesthetic treatments in Birmingham, we know it’s important to look after your skin every single day. As skin experts, we can recommend treatments for your skin, but we can also give advice on how to keep your skin in good health daily. We have put together a list of everyday habits that might be damaging your skin and leaving it looking and feeling flawed.

Eating too much sugar

Everyone knows that sugar is bad for their waistline, but did you know that it also wrecks havoc on your skin too? It damages collagen and other cells that are responsible for leaving your skin looking soft and healthy. You should attempt to cut out as much sugar as possible, especially fizzy drinks that can contain up to 33 grams of sugar in just one can. You can enjoy sugar in moderation but swap your fizzy snacks and pop for fruit, vegetables and water.

Smoking (At All)

Smoking is bad for you. We wish that was enough to get people to stop doing it, but unfortunately that will never be the case. Therefore, we try our best to educate people on the consequences that smoking can have on your health – including the skin. It’s a quick and easy way to get wrinkles, and no matter what anti aging creams you use, nothing will prevent this from happening. It causes premature aging, bags under the eyes, and a grey appearance of the skin.

Exfoliating too much

Every skincare professional will tell you that you must exfoliate your skin – which is true. However, by over-exfoliating, you could also be damaging it. It can cause redness, irritation and pigmentation issues that can leave your skin feeling less than healthy. It can also cause the skin to dry out, so it’s important that you don’t overdo it.

Not throwing away old makeup brushes

A lot of people don’t realise that they should be replacing their makeup brushes at least every 6 months and cleaning their brushes after every use. Dirty brushes can clog up your pores and cause bacterial infections which will leave your skin looking blotchy and blemished. You should make sure you clean your brushes every time with a high quality brush cleaner.
