What are Dermarollers and How Do They Work?

If you love taking care of your looks and like to always be up to date on all beauty news, you have certainly heard of the Dermaroller, a new instrument that brings youth to the skin. But you might still wonder what exactly it does: we are here to clear it all up!

What is a Dermaroller?

Dermarollers are revolutionary instruments based on micro-needling. A Dermaroller consists of a roll covered in micro-needles. It has tiny needles (on average, around 500) of different lengths depending on the treatment you’re going for. It can go from 0.25 mm needles (which can even be used at home!) for a face lifting effect, to 2-3 mm needles, which can only be used by a professional, and which treat deeper scars and wrinkles.

How is it Used?

An anaesthetic cream is placed on the problematic part of the skin, then the roll is passed on it, penetrating it with the micro-needles. At the end of the process, your skin will be red and you might experience a bit of bleeding. A cream to soften this effect will be applied. The redness will disappear in 24 hours, and you can return to your life immediately after the treatment (although we recommend you avoid the sun for the day).

How Does it Work?

It exploits the natural regeneration power of the skin. Every time micro-needles penetrates superficial cutaneous strata, your organism reacts with cellular activation and liberation of cytokines and lymphokines, oxygen from red blood cells and platelet stimuli. So, new cells are produced, and with them new collagen, which gets added up with the collagen already present on your skin. In this way, your skin is reborn, and wrinkles, scars and stretch-marks are filled in.
